Some information about me and my country: My name is Olavur Hojgaard (Oliver), and I'm from the Faroe Islands, 18 small islands in the North Atlantic, north-west of Scotland, halfway between Iceland and Norway. The Faroese language has it's roots in the Old Norse language from the Viking age. In the Faroes, we have an ancient folksong- and dance tradition, the Faroese chain dance, which dates back to the Middle Ages. In today's music, you will often find traces of the old traditional songs. Over the last years, Faroese music has seriously made it's marks on the international music scene. About my own music career: Since the eighties, I've been the singer in the Faroese band 'Vestmenn'. We have had several LPs and CDs published locally. Our music ranges from country music to rock and traditional folk music. Besides being the singer in the band, I compose melodies for the band, as well as for my own use. 'When I'm dreaming': For the recording of my solo album, 'When I'm Dreaming', I went to Nashville, where the music was recorded at Seventeen Grand Studio. The songs, however, were recorded in the Faroes. There are two different versions, one sung in Faroese, the other one in English.
