About This Release
The death toll of the American Civil War climbed to more than 750,000 people! That was more than 2% of the entire nation's population. The young republic had never previously any cause to deal with such catastrophic losses and it resulted in changes to the way we deal with loss that still effect US to this day. From a system for medical triage and an ambulance corps to a national cemetery to relief for veterans and their families to the founding of Memorial Day, the Civil War still reaches out to US more than 150 years later.
