Formed in 1984, Wax were a duo, featuring Englishman Graham Gouldman, who made his name with 10cc, after first earning songwriting spurs by writing a string of hits for such thoroughbreds as the Yardbirds, Hollies Cher, the Ohio Express and Herman's Hermits. He teamed up with American Andrew Gold in Wax; Gold - son of Academy Award winning composer Ernest Gold and singer Marni Nixon - had established a reputation through working with Linda Rondstadt, Art Garfunkel and a long list of others. By the end of the 1970s, he had a successful solo career that included the anthem 'Lonely Boy' and 'Thank You for Being a Friend'.
