Orange County, California-based melodic metal outift Atreyu, exploded on to the scene in 2002 with their debut album SUICIDE NOTES & BUTTERFLY KISSES. Now they return with their third album DEATHGRIP ON YESTERDAY.

Reviews:

''A Death-Grip on Yesterday'' is the third studio album from the American metalcore quintet Atreyu. It was released on March 28, 2006 through Victory Records.

It was leaked onto P2P and BitTorrent sites on February 24, over a month before its official release. A week after its release, it had sold more than 69,000 copies and started out at #9 on the Billboard 200. It has gone on to sell more than 340,000 copies.

The album was released with a Victory Records DVD featuring the making of the album and promotional videos by Victory Records artists.

An instrumental version of the album, as well as ''The Curse'', was released on iTunes on January 9, 2007.

Also, in August, Atreyu unexpectedly released a live music video for the song "Untitled Finale". - Wikipedia

Named after the boy warrior who famously rides Falcor the Luckdragon in childrens classic The Neverending Story, this Orange Country quintet would seem to be obvious bedfellows of nerd-rockers Coheed & Cambria and My Chemical Romance. But anyone who a) studied the pro-bloodsucker lyrics to "The Crimson" on 2004 sophomore effort The Curse, or b) noticed that Atreyus latest single, "Her Portrait in Black," was exclusive to the soundtrack of vampires vs. werewolves sequel Underworld: Evolution understands that the bands sentiments are slightly more primal. Whatever the inspiration, Atreyu have refined an approach that many of their peers have pummeled into clichblending classic metal licks with good cop/bad cop vocal dynamicsand manufactured some genuinely memorable hooks on "Our Sick Story" and "Exs and Ohs." They could conceivably hopscotch between Sounds of the Underground and Warped Tour this summer. Where do we sign up for a friggin luckdragon?

Well, of course they have a death-grip on yesterday; they named the damn band after the Green-Skin Warrior from The Neverending Story. That said, Atreyu's scream-sing rope-a-dope should continue to compel the mascaracore masses. Single "Her Portrait in Black" already has a head start courtesy of the Underworld: Evolution soundtrack.
